Roadways top-drawer of January with contracts

During January 2012, Roadways sector accounted for a total of 12 contracts worth Rs 3,671 crore. The sector was followed by the Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution sector with 10 contracts worth Rs 2,935 crore. In all, 72 contracts worth Rs 11,560 crore were awarded on domestic and foreign shores during the month.
In the Roadways sector, major contract worth Rs 1,300 crore was clinched by IVRCL Assets & Holdings from the NHAI. The contract envisages widening and strengthening the existing two-lane highway to a six / four-lane highway standards of Raipur-Bilaspur section of NH-200 (0.00 km to 126.525 km) in Chhattisgarh. The project will be implemented on the DBFOT basis. Another noteworthy contract bagged in the sector was worth Rs 675 crore by KNR Constructions from GVK Power & Infrastructure. The scope of work includes Design, engineering, procurement and construction of four-laning of Shivpuri-Dewas section of NH-3 in Madhya Pradesh, India for project package I & II on lumpsum turnkey fixed price contract basis. Also, the KNR Constructions along with Sri Lakshmi Metal Industries has bagged another contract worth Rs 206.69 crore from the Andhra Pradesh Government for construction of major bridge across river Godavari (length 1.780 km) and its approaches (length 18.690 km) at Eturunagaram on Hyderabad - Bhoopalapatnam Road of NH No-163 (old No.202) including realignment in 1.960 km length at five locations between Km 284/150 to Km 298/200- 910 in Andhra Pradesh under LWE scheme. Other than this, the Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution sector secured 10 contracts worth Rs 2,935 crore for various works. L&T has bagged a contract from Tamil Nadu Water Supply & Drainage Board (TWAD) worth Rs 1,262 crore for combined water supply scheme at various locations in Madurai, Sivagangai and Vellore districts in Tamil Nadu. Also, TWAD has awarded two contracts to IVRCL worth Rs 595 crore in the state for providing Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) to 755 rural habitations in Virudhnagar, Sivakasi, Sattur and Vembakottai unions in Virudhnagar district with Thamirabarani river as source including maintenance of 12 months and providing CWSS to 295 quality affected habitations and 315 wayside habitations in Sirkali Kollidam Sembanarkoil and Maylladuthrai unions in Nagapattinam district including paid maintenance of 12 months. IVRCL has secured another two contracts in the sector from Kerala Water Authority and Cauvery Neeravari Nigam.

The Power sector saw five contracts worth Rs 672.6 crore, in which Wind Based Power has accounted for three contracts worth Rs 650 crore and Gas Based Power and Solar based Power has accounted a contract worth Rs 11 crore, each. Suzlon Energy has received a contract worth Rs 600 crore from CLP Power India for 100 MW wind power project in Rajasthan which comprises 48 units of Suzlon's S97-2.1 MW wind turbines, featuring DFIG technology.
In the Power Distribution sector, nine contracts worth Rs 1,043.53 crore accounted for 9.03 per cent share of the total contracts bagged during the month. In the sector, KEC International has received the maximum contracts worth Rs 934 crore. The contracts included a Rs 258 crore contract from PGCIL for the supply and construction of 400 kV Double Circuit transmission line from Bhachau (Kachchh district) to Essar thermal power station in Gujarat. The total length of the line is 260 km and the contractual completion time is approximately 26 months. The second order valued at Rs 113 crore has been received from Haldia Energy for the supply and construction of 400 kV Double Circuit river crossing transmission line between Haldia thermal power plant, Subhash Gram, crossing the Ganges River at Kolkata (West Bengal). The contractual completion time for the project is approximately 18 months. "The last few months have been very good for KEC in terms of securing new orders. We have continuously secured orders from across the globe and across our various businesses. The Haldia Energy (CESC) order is the second successive order from the domestic private sector customer in the last two weeks. Further, this order includes manufacture and erection of one of India's largest and highest tower with stringing across a river spanning 3 km. The tower height is 246 mtrs (excluding the height of the mid-steam pile foundation). This reinforces KEC's ability to execute complex transmission line projects in difficult terrains." During the month, four overseas contracts worth Rs 584 crore were bagged in Bangladesh, Phillipines, Kenya and Saudi Arabia. Of these, KEC International has secured three overseas contracts in the Power Distribution sector worth Rs 504 crore for various works. The contract worth Rs 310 crore is from Saudi Electricity Co. for the construction of 110kV/132kV double circuit overhead transmission lines (68 km) and underground cable works (13 km), the contract worth Rs 53 crore is from National Grid Corporation of the Philippines for 230kV substation work in Lumban and 138kV substation work in Colon-Cebu in Philippines and the contract valued Rs 141 crore is from Kenya Electricity Transmission Company for completion of three 220/132kV substations along with associated interconnecting transmission lines for Olkaria IV and Olkaria I power stations in Kenya.
