bags the biggest contract in June 2011

During June 2011, a total of 57 contracts worth Rs 17,452.26 crore were awarded. Though the aggregate contracts figures compares well with the earlier two months of the first quarter of the fiscal 2011-12, the average quarterly performance was 30 per cent lower compared with the average contracts bagged figure of the last quarter (Jan-March 2011) of the fiscal 2010-11.

 

Indian companies managed to bag contracts worth Rs 12,051.76 crore in the domestic circuit. The biggest contract of the month worth Rs 1,980 crore was bagged by Technimont ICB from ONGC Petro Additions (OPaL) for setting up a polypropylene plant of 340 Kty capacity and two HD/LLD swing polyethylene plants of 360 Kty capacity each in Dahej, Gujarat.

Among the major sectors, the Power sector saw some action during June 2011. The preceding two months did not see awarding of any big contracts. In the Hydel power sector, three deals were concluded. HCC-Alstom combine received an EPC contract for construction of head race tunnel, surge shaft, penstocks, underground powerhouse, ventilation system gallery, bus bar gallery and cavern, and a tail race tunnel building for pumped storage plant at the THDC's Tehri Dam and Hydel project in Uttarakhand. Indiabulls Power awarded a contract to L&T for civil and structural works for coal handling plants and ash handling plant for Nashik coal based power project (Phase II) and Amravati coal based power project (Phase II) in Maharashtra.

 

BHEL will be setting up a solar power project for Karnataka Power Corporation at Belakavadi village near Mandya in Karnataka. The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, installation and operation & maintenance of the solar power plant. KPCL has selected Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic (C-SI PV) technology for this solar power plant.

 

In the Nuclear power sector, NPCIL awarded an EPC contract to Punj Lloyd for Kakrapara Atomic Power Project (Unit III & IV) near Surat in Gujarat and Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (Unit VII & VIII) near Kota in Rajasthan. The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, erection and commissioning of nuclear equipment and piping for all the systems inside the nuclear reactor buildings of the pressurised heavy water reactors.

 

The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation has awarded various road widening works to Arss Infrastructure-Niraj Cement Structurals combine and KNR Constructions. The works include widening of Manawar-Mangod (Bandheri) road & Sardarpur-Rajgarh- Bagh road and Pichhore - Chanderi - Mungawali - Onder - Kurwai road and, Hata-Patera-Kumhari & Raipura-Saliya- Bahuriband-Sehora road.

 

In the Petrochemicals sector, Samsung Engineering Company will be setting up a petrochemical plant with an annual production capacity of 3,40,000 tonne of high-density polyethylene at an SEZ in Dahej, Gujarat.
