ThyssenKrupp Uhde secures mega-contract
FOR FERTILISER PLANTS

ThyssenKrupp Industries India has secured two significant contracts worth Rs 6,950 crore in November 2012. The company has secured both the contracts in the Fertilisers sector from CF Industries Holdings, Inc at different locations in USA. One contract is for construction of an ammonia plant with a daily capacity of 3,300 tonne, a urea plant, a nitric acid and a UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate) plant and a urea granulation plant in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. And another is for construction of an ammonia plant with a daily capacity of 2,200 tonne, a urea plant (3,500 tpd) and a urea granulation plant (3,500 tpd) in Port Neal, Iowa, USA.

"ThyssenKrupp Uhde is a market leader in the construction of plants for the processing of natural gas - the central growth driver for the US petrochemical industry. This order is a strong case in point and proof of our sophisticated engineering skills," says Dr Olaf Berlien, member of the board of ThyssenKrupp AG. Whereas, Stephen R. Wilson, chairman and chief executive officer, CF Industries Holdings, Inc says, "We are pleased to announce definitive, large-scale nitrogen capacity expansion plans at our North American operations focused on substantially increasing our ability to serve our customers. We believe that our projects will be among the first in North America to be in production. We already own suitable sites, have retained a world-class engineering partner and have completed the front end engineering and design study for key components of the projects."

Another major contract secured by the company is worth Rs 1,080 crore from Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding in Vietnam. The scope of work includes basic engineering, detail engineering, supply of all equipment and materials, construction and commissioning for a 500 tpd nitric acid plant in Vietnam. The contract has been awarded to a consortium consisting of ThyssenKrupp Uhde, Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Company, Toyo Vietnam Corporation and Lilama 69-1 Joint Stock Company. Fertiliser sector in all witnessed three contracts worth Rs 8,030 crore. November 2012, witnessed five overseas contracts, one each in Nigeria, Oman and Vietnam; and two in USA. In Oman, Va Tech Wabag secured EPC contract worth Rs 1,890 crore from Oman Power & Water Procurement Co. SAOC for SWRO desalination project in Al Gubrah, Muscat. The project will be modelled on BOO basis as an independent water project to be developed by a consortium of Malakoff International (Malaysia), Sumitomo Corporation (Japan), and Cadagua (Spain).

The month of November 2012 witnessed 35 contracts worth Rs 17,471 crore. Of the total, Power Sector witnessed nine contracts worth Rs 4,209 crore. In which, the Wind based observed seven contracts worth Rs 1,800 crore, Hydel based saw one contract worth Rs 1,985 and the remaining one contract is in the Coal/Lignite based sector. In the Wind based power, Regen Powertech has secured four contracts from Mytrah Energy, Hetero Infrastructure, NSL Power and ReNew Power for supply and installation of 67 WEC turbines for 100.5 MW project, 36 WEC turbines for 54MW project, 50 WEC turbines for 75 MW project and 33 WEC turbines for 49.5 MW project, respectively. In the Hydel based power, L & T Construction has secured single contract worth Rs 1, 985 crore from GVK Power & Infrastructure for major infrastructure work of the 850 MW Ratle hydroelectric power project located on the Chenab in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir.

Some of the other major contracts secured in the month are as follows:

  • L & T Construction with Shanghai Urban Construction Group secured a contract worth Rs 1252 crore from DMRC for design and construct a tunnel between Shankar Vihar and Hauz Khas and underground stations at Vasant Vihar, Munirka, R.K.Puram, IIT and Hauz Khas. L&T Construction's share in the project is Rs 852 crore.
  • KNR Constructions secured EPC contract worth Rs 790 crore from KNR Walayar Tollways for four laning of the Walayar-Vadakkancherry section in Kerala.
  • IVRCL secured contract from NTPC for SG area and offsite civil works at Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project, Stage I of 3x800 MW, in Bijapur district of Karnataka. This order is a part of cumulative orders bagged by the company worth Rs 424.09 crore.
