The month of July 2011 saw number of project tenders floated expanding by 16 per cent as compared to June 2011 figures. However, in terms of job work, it marked a decline of 19 per cent. As against 2,110 tenders worth Rs 23,489 crore floated in June 2011, the July month saw floatation of 2,439 project tenders worth Rs 19,060 crore.
Of the total project tenders invited in July 2001, 1,726 tenders worth Rs 8,767 crore were by state government agencies, 662 tenders worth Rs 9,929 crore by Union Government agencies, and the balance 51 tenders were by private companies.

The most significant tender was floated by the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT). On 25 July 2011, KoPT invited RfQs for the development of container terminal facility at Diamond Harbour and operations of Berth No 4 & 5 N S Dock, KDS and No 11 Berth at HDC through PPP at an estimated cost of Rs 2005 crore. The Roadways sector continued to top the sector wise list of tenders with 588 tenders worth Rs 7,654 crore. The NHAI was once again in the forefront in floating tenders for developing highways. Of the 21 tenders worth Rs 4,317 crore invited by the NHAI, the noteworthy tender was the one invited for four-laning of Kiratpur-Ner Chowk section from km 73.200 to km 186.500 of NH-21 in Himachal Pradesh on BOT (Toll) basis, under NHDP-IV, at an estimated cost at Rs 1,916 crore. The NHAI also floated two tenders for preparation of feasibility-cum-preliminary design report for construction of standalone ring road/bypass around Srinagar and Jammu City under NHDP-VII. In all, the NHAI floated 21 tenders worth Rs 4,317 crore during the month.
Out of the 106 tenders floated in the Hospital sector, two important tenders were floated by the Health Education & Family Welfare Department, Jharkhand Government. The department invited tenders for the construction of 500-beds hospital at Kharsawa and Dumka at an estimated cost of Rs 141 crore and Rs 143 crore, respectively.
High Speed Rail Corridors for India

In the Railways Sector, a total of 172 tenders worth Rs 1,492 crore were floated during the month including that of a tender for High Speed Rail Corridors. Ircon International called tenders for preparation of feasibility study for High Speed Rail Corridors between Chennai-Bengaluru-Coimbatore-Ernakulam. In a related development, IRCON has appointed UK based engineering and development consultancy firm Mott MacDonald to conduct prefeasibility studies for a proposed high speed rail service between Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi and Patna. "High speed rail would position India for future growth and economic development and spur tourism," said Gaurav Srivastava, Project Director, Mott MacDonald. Rail Vikas Nigam invited bids in four separate packages for construction of viaduct including related works between Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Rabindra Tirtha in New Garia-Airport Corridor of Kolkata Metro Railway Line Project. The aggregate cost of these packages is estimated at Rs 900 crore. Among the states, Karnataka emerged winner with 276 tenders worth Rs 717 crore followed by Uttar Pradesh (209 tenders worth Rs 901 crore), Maharashtra (206 tenders worth Rs 1,409 crore) and Madhya Pradesh (197 tenders worth Rs 864 crore).

Mahanadi Coalfields issued notice to cancel a tender issued in September 2009. The scope of work involved planning, design and engineering, erection, testing and successful commissioning of coal washing plant for 10 million tpa raw coal in Jagannath Area on BOM concept. Besides, UJVNL issued notice for revised schedule of tender for electro-mechanical works of 2x60 MW Vyasi hydro electric project. Now, last date for the submission is 29 September 2011. This is for the seventh time that UJVNL has issued revised schedule. The original tender was issued on 26 September 2009.
