Project tenders worth Rs 23,044 crore floated in February

Aslew of high value project tenders floated in February 2011 saw project tendering increasing by around 42 per cent in February 2011 on a month-to-month basis. As against 3,660 project tenders worth Rs 16,244 crore floated in January 2011, about 3,727 project tenders worth Rs 23,044 crore were issued in February. Out of this, 2,418 tenders worth Rs 14,308 crore were by State Government agencies, 1,252 tenders worth Rs 8,603 crore were by Central Government agencies and the balance 57 tenders were by Private companies.
The most notable tender floated in February 2011 was by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO). On 1 February 2011, MAHAGENCO invited global bids for design, manufacture, assembly, testing at manufacturing works, supply, erection, testing and commissioning and performance guarantee test of combined cycle power plant (CCPP) on turnkey basis, having gross plant output of 1,220 MW at site conditions, at the existing gas turbine power station at Uran in Raigarh district of Maharashtra.

Another noteworthy project tender was issued by Ircon International. On 12 February 2011, Ircon invited bids for construction of Tunnel T-74R between km 125 and km 134 on Dharam-Qazigund section of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla New BG Railway Line Project.
Roadways topped the sector-wise list with 1,267 project tenders worth Rs 11,358 crore. Community Services, Railways and Irrigation followed with 442 tenders worth Rs 1,611 crore, 347 tenders worth Rs 2,421 crore and 276 tenders worth Rs 2,247 crore, respectively.
In the Roadways Sector a noteworthy tender during the month was issued by NHAI. On 19 February 2011, NHAI invited global RfQs for four-laning of Obedullaganj-Betul section of NH-69 in Madhya Pradesh on BOT (Toll) basis under NHDP-IV, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,152 crore.

The Shipping Infrastructure sector saw 24 tenders being floated during February 2011. The two notable tenders in this sector were issued by V O Chidambarnar Port Trust (Tuticorin Port Trust). On 16 February 2011, the Trust invited RfQs for development of North Cargo Berth-III for handling bulk cargoes (thermal coal & rock phosphate etc.) at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore and another one on 18 February 2011 for development of North Cargo Berth-IV for handling bulk cargoes (thermal coal & copper concentrate etc.) at an estimated cost of Rs 355 crore under PPP on DBFOT basis.
Power Distribution sector saw 210 project tenders being floated worth Rs 1,081 crore during February 2011. Around one-fifth of the total tenders floated in this sector were in Madhya Pradesh. State transmission utilities of Madhya Pradesh such as Poorv Kshetra, Madhya Kshetra and Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Companies, together floated 44 tenders under Feeder Separation Programme in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh.
Among the states, Maharashtra topped with 539 tenders worth Rs 1,978 crore. Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Jharkhand followed the list with 334 tenders worth Rs 3,187 crore, 323 tenders worth Rs 840 crore and 295 tenders worth Rs 514 crore, respectively.
