In August 2011, project tendering activities saw 38 per cent increase in terms of aggregate value of work proposed. As against 2,439 project tenders worth Rs. 19,060 crore floated in July 2011, 2,422 project tenders worth Rs. 26,240 crore were announced during the month of August 2011.

 

Of the total project tenders invited in August 2011, 1,715 tenders worth Rs. 10,336 crore were by state government agencies, 667 tenders worth Rs. 15,901 crore by Union Government agencies and the balance 40 tenders by the private companies. The most significant tender was floated by Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company.

 

MEGA invited global bids for appointment of general consultant for the proposed Phase I of Ahmedabad metro rail project. In Phase I, MEGA is undertaking execution of metro rail project on approximately 20 km on elevated routes, with multiple stations along that route, covering the major traffic corridor in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) proposed to provide monorail as Mass Rapid Transit System for Chennai Metropolitan Area in selected corridors. MTC has identified four corridors of various lengths and the monorail system will cover all 111 km. To implement above project, MTC invited global RfQs for development of Monorail Mass Rapid Transit System for Chennai under DBFOT basis and has invited bids from consulting firms for providing transaction advisory services for selection of developer for the same project. The Roadways sector continued to top the sector-wise list of tenders with 663 tenders, worth Rs. 16,103 crore. The most significant tender was floated by NHAI. On 2 August 2011, NHAI invited global RfQs for the four-laning of Amravati- Maharashtra / Gujarat Border section of NH-6 from 166.725 km to 649.00 km in Maharashtra on BOT (Toll) basis under NHDP-IV. The aggregate cost is estimated at Rs. 5,007 crore. In all, the NHAI floated 34 project tenders worth Rs. 9,768 crore. Another notable tender was by the Mumbai JNPT Port Road Company, an SPV of NHAI, for widening of NH-4 B, NH-4, SH-54 and Amra Marg to six/eight-laning on boundaries of Navi Mumbai Airport and the JNPT in the Maharashtra on BOT (Toll) basis. The project is estimated at Rs. 2,260 crore. Out of 37 tenders floated in Hydro Power sector, the most significant was by UJVNL. On 4 August 2011, UJVNL invited bids for consultancy services for formation of JV for development of hydro electric projects in Uttarakhand. Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency invited bids for design, construction, supply, erection, testing and commissioning, including execution of power evacuation and transmission line on turnkey basis for 11 small hydro projects ranging from 2 x 100 KW to 2 x 1250 KW in Kargil district of Jammu & Kashmir.

 

During the month, a total of 87 project tenders worth Rs. 1,766 crore were floated in the Real Estate sector. The Bangalore Development Authority invited six tenders for construction of affordable housing scheme for economically weaker section, low income group and middle income group at various locations across Bangalore city. The aggregate cost of these tenders is estimated at Rs. 903 crore. Another prominent tender in the same sector was floated by the Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA). On 12 August 2011, NRDA invited bids for design, finance, build, operate, manage and transfer the Theme Township with Golf Course at Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The project components include residential township comprising of villas, apartments, bungalows, common social infrastructure, including commercial and retail development, EWS & LIG Houses in 54 Ha and 18 hole golf academy, golf club, residential villas/bungalows in 60 Ha. Among the states, Chhattisgarh was leading with 257 tenders worth Rs. 1,157 crore followed by Andhra Pradesh (252 tenders worth Rs. 398 crore), Orissa (220 tenders worth Rs. 1,615 crore) and Gujarat (208 tenders worth Rs. 1,216 crore). Chhattisgarh Surguja Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation issued notice for extension of submission date for response to global RfQ for selection of developer for 4,000 MW Chhattisgarh Ultra Mega Power project on BOO basis in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. The last date for submission of RfQs is 5 December 2011. This is for the eighth time that the submission date has been extended for Chhattisgarh UMPP. The original tender was issued in March 2010.

 

 

 

Major tenders floated in the private sector

Universal Crescent Power Private, a USEL Group Company, for EPC of Saurashtra super thermal power project (Saurashtra STPP) Stage-I (2 x 660 MW) near Bhatvadia village in Kalyanpur taluka of Jamnagar district in the state of Gujarat.

Essar Projects (I) for supply of equipment and materials for its Raniganj CBM Field Development Project in Durgapur in West Bengal.VBC Ferro Alloys for supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 2 x 60 MW steam generator, turbine and generator complete with associated auxiliaries on turnkey basis at Sirpur Kagaz Nagar in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh.

Responsive Sutip for design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning on EPC basis for 25 MWp Solar PV Power project in the state of Gujarat.

Panchhor Hydro Power Private for supply and installation of 3 x 8.2 MW capacity hydro power plant and equipment for Wanger-Homte small hydro electric project in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

 

 

During the month, the Water Supply sector saw invitation for 80 tenders. Around 19 tenders were for setting up of water, effluent treatment plants. The most noteworthy tender was floated by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority. The authority invited bids for augmentation of water supply scheme of SAS Nagar (Phase-V & VI) from Kajauli Head Works to Water Works, SAS Nagar. The cost of the project is estimated at 156 crore. Another tender in the same sector was invited by Directorate of Urban Development, Tripura Government, for preparation of drainage plan and the DPR of drainage system of Agartala Municipal Area.

 

The Real Estate sector saw 32 tenders being floated during November 2011. The most notable tender in this sector was floated by U P Housing & Development Board for engineering, procurement and construction of multi-storied residential houses in Ganga, Yamuna & Hndon Enclave at Sector-10, Siddharth Vihar, Ghaziabad. The cost of the project is estimated at 350 crore. Among the states, Andhra Pradesh accounted for a total of 300 tenders worth Rs 880 crore followed by Madhya Pradesh (245 tenders worth Rs 1,262 crore), Maharashtra (163 tenders worth Rs 9,635 crore) and Chhattisgarh (133 tenders worth Rs 401 crore).

Major EoIs floated during August 2011

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust for development of WQ-8 Berth with mechanical handling facilities for handling cargo at Inner Harbour of Visakhapatnam Port in Andhara Pradesh.

Department of Health & Family Welfare, Chhattisgarh, for setting up and management of medical colleges at various locations in the state of Chhattisgarh, under PPP.

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation for setting up of Gems & Jewellery Park on the land of Jahangir Vakil Mills, Bhavnagar in Gujarat.

Joshi Technologies International Inc for drilling rig services, mud engineering services, mud logging services, directional drilling services, cementation services and wire line logging & perforation services for five wells of depth, approx. 1800 mtr (3C.P) in Dholka Block, Gujarat.

UJVNL for consultancy services for additional surveys and studies for comprehensive environmental impact assessment (EIA) and environment management plan (EMP) reports for 100 MW Nand Prayag Langasu Hydro Electric Project in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

Roads & Buildings Department, Gujarat, for independent engineering services for development of five ROBs at level crossings at Mehsana, Palanpur, Karamsad and Keshod in the state of Gujarat BOT (Annuity) basis.

  • Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board has appointed Tata Consultancy Services as a consultant for preparation of detailed project report for Krishna drinking water supply project Phase-III. The tender for above work was invited on 9 April 2011.
  • The Karnataka Road Development Corporation has awarded a contract to India International Infrastructure Engineers for consultancy services for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for construction of bridge across Garudachala River near Byragondalu at Koratagere taluka in Tumkur district of Karnataka. The tender for above work was invited on 16 March 2011.
  • Raichur Sholapur Transmission Company has roped in Patel Engineering as a EPC contractor for development of 208 km transmission system of 765 kV between Raichur and Solapur, associated to Krishnapattnam UMPP (Andhra Pradesh) on BOOM basis. The tender for above work was invited on 4 March 2011.
  • The Municipal Corporation of Raipur has awarded a contract to Mans Hotel for setting up of amusement parkcum- recreational park at Motibag in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. The tender for above work was invited on 3 March 2011.
  • The National Dairy Development Board has appointed Ramky Infrastructure as a contractor for civil, structural, water supply, sanitary, internal electrification & street lighting works of 100 tpd milk powder unit at Banas Dairy in Palanpur district of Gujarat. The tender for above work was invited on 24 March 2011.
