During October 2012, a total of Rs 3,255 project tenders worth Rs 27,601 crore were floated. Among the floated tenders, 2,673 tenders worth Rs 19,633 crore were by various state governments, 553 tenders worth Rs 7,776 crore by the Central Government and balance 29 tenders were by private companies.

The most notable tender during the month was issued by Meghalaya Power Department for setting up a 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) coal based supercritical thermal power plant on BOO basis. The said power station will use coal from Mandakini-B Coal Block located in Angul district of Orissa. The project is to be situated in the vicinity of the mine within the distance of 500 km from the Mandakini-B Coal Block.Among the sectors, the Roadways sector continued to be at the top with 1,459 tenders worth Rs 15,317 crore (Proposed to be declared as NH) (from Km 5.300 to Km 14.850) and Amra Marg (from Km 0.000 to Km 6.200) to six/eight lanes on boundaries of proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport in Maharashtra to be executed as BOT (Toll) project on DBFOT pattern through PPP. The cost of this project is estimated at Rs 1,821crore. The Hydel Power sector saw 25 project tenders being floated during the month. One of the noteworthy tender in the sector was issued by Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development (JAKEDC) for development of 10 micro/mini hydro power projects upto capacity of two MW such as Arai- I, Arai-II, Bahramgala-II, Sawjia-II, Khari, Googaldar, Dadibal Kapran, Ahlan-II, Baltikulan (Kangan) and Sarfaraw (Kangan) in Jammu & Kashmir as Independent Power Producer (IPP). Further, a total of 125 project tenders worth Rs 2,134 crore were invited in the Power Distribution Sector. Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (MVVNL) invited bids in separate packages for rural electricity infrastructure and rural household electrification under Raja Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY-II) in Barabanki, Gonda, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Behraich, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur, Hardoi and Unnao districts of Uttar Pradesh. The aggregate cost for this packages is estimated at Rs 1,811 crore. The Irrigation sector witnessed 226 tenders worth Rs 2,895 crore being floated during the month. The Irrigation Department, Uttar Pradesh invited RFQs in seven separate packages for construction of Rapti Main Canal & its distribution system. The aggregate cost for this packages is estimated at Rs 1,660 crore.
Among the states, Tamil Nadu accounted for a total of 604 tenders worth Rs 4,222 crore followed by Madhya Pradesh (377 tenders worth Rs 1,769 crore), Chhattisgarh (321 tenders worth Rs 771 crore), Maharashtra (237 tenders worth Rs 3,985 crore).
