The month of April 2012 witnessed a total of 3,539 project tenders worth Rs. 23,747 crore being floated. Among the tenders floated, 2,883 tenders worth Rs. 13,177 crore were by the State Government, 603 tenders worth Rs. 10,447 crore by the Central Government and balance 53 tenders were by private sector companies.
The most notable tender during the month was issued by NHPC for execution of civil works in six separate packages for Tawang hydro electric project Stage-I (600 MW) & Stage- II (800 MW) in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The civil works comprising of diversion tunnel, barrage, intake, desilting chambers, head race tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft and underground power house.
Another notable tender during the month was issued by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation for interim consultancy of Mumbai Metro Line-3 Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ fully underground project. The scope of services includes final location survey, geotechnical investigations, packaging / slicing, preparation of tender designs, documents and other ancillary activities.
Among the sectors, the Roadways sector continued to be at the top with 1,555 tenders worth Rs. 11,023 crore. The most important tender in this sector was issued by Border Roads Organization (BRO). On 15 April 2012 BRO invited global RFQs for the construction, operation and maintenance of ZMorh tunnel on NH-1 on Srinagar-Sonamarg Gumri road in the state of Jammu & Kashmir on DBFOT (Annuity) basis. The cost of this 6.5 km tunnel project is estimated at Rs. 2,515 crore. Another notable tender in the same sector was issued by the NHAI for four laning of Solan-Shimla section of NH-22 from km 105.910 to km 156.507 on BOT (Toll) basis under NHDP-III. The cost of this project is estimated at Rs. 1,786 crore.
The Shipping Infrastructure sector saw 17 tenders being floated worth Rs. 2,356 crore during the month. The most noteworthy tender in this sector was issued by the Kolkata Port Trust. Two separate global RFQs have been invited for construction of Haldia Dock-II (South) and Haldia Dock-II (North) along with all required facilities on DBFOT basis at Haldia Dock Complex. The cost for these tenders is estimated at Rs. 888 and Rs. 822 crore, respectively. Another notable tender within the same sector was issued by the Kandla Port Trust for setting up of Single Point Mooring (SPM) and allied facilities off Veera in Gulf of Kutch under PPP. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 621 crore.

The Hospital sector saw the 62 tenders being floated worth Rs. 374 crore during the month. The most prominent tender in this sector was issued by the HSCC in two separate packages for construction of hospital buildings, residencies hostels and academic buildings in LGBRIMH Campus, Tezpur in Assam. The aggregate cost of these packages is estimated at Rs. 164 crore.
The Real Estate Sector saw 44 tenders being floated worth Rs. 1,274 crore during the month. The most noteworthy tender in this sector was issued by the Delhi Development Authority for construction of 1,240 HIG houses including internal development and electrification in Sector-19 B, DWK in Delhi. The cost of this project is estimated at 1,019 crore. Among the states, Madhya Pradesh accounted for a total of 498 tenders worth Rs. 2,341 crore followed by Kerala (294 tenders worth Rs. 587 crore), Gujarat (286 tenders worth Rs. 2,069 crore) and Maharashtra (278 tenders worth Rs. 1,543 crore).
