During May 2008, a total of 3,238 project related tenders worth Rs.38,642 crore were floated. Of the total tenders floated, 2,363 tenders worth Rs.18,483 crore were by state government agencies, 831 tenders worth Rs.20,064 crore were by central government agencies and the balance 44 tenders were by private companies.

Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, on behalf of the proposed SPV, floated the most notable tender of the month. It invited EoIs for the general consultancy services for East West Metro Project from Howrah to Salt Lake Sector-V (13.77 km) in Kolkata. The estimated cost of the metro project is Rs.4,676 crore.

 

Among the major sectors, Roadways with 1,341 project tenders worth Rs.25,922 crore topped the sector-wise list. Community services, Irrigation and Railways sectors followed with 410 tenders worth Rs.1,505 crore, 377 tenders worth Rs.1,866 crore and 271 tenders worth Rs.5,640 crore, respectively.

 

National Highways Authority of India floated 27 project related tenders. Of this, 19 tenders with an estimated cost of Rs.16,968 crore, were for the development of various national highway stretches on BOT basis under NHDP-III. Among these tenders, most notable one was for the four-laning of Khagaria-Bakhtiarpur section of NH-31 from KM.153.00 to KM.270.00 on BOT (Toll) basis under NHDP-III in the state of Bihar with an estimated cost of Rs.1,704 crore. Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation floated three high value tenders during the month. It invited global bids for development of Ankapalli-Anandapuram road, Nellore-Gooty Road and Nandyal-Koduru Road, on BOT basis.

 

Commissionerate of Sugar, Maharashtra State, floated tenders for supply of new boilers and turbogenerators for bagasse based co-generation projects ranging from 8 MW to 33 MW in various co-operative sugar factories in Maharashtra. The sugar factories include, Hutama Kisan Ahir SSK in Sangli, Samarth SSK in Jalna, Vikas SSK in Latur, Sonhira SSK in Sangli, Vishwasrao Naik in Sangli, Vasantdada Patil SSK in Nasik, Purna SSK in Hingoli, Ashok SSK in Ahmednagar, Someshwar SSK in Pune, Sahakar Maharashi SM Patil SSK Akluj in Solapur, Sadashivarao Mandlik SSK in Kolhapur, Vithal SSK in Solapur and Kranji SSK in Sangli.

During May 2008, the hydel based power sector, saw 36 tenders being floated. Nuziveedu Seeds, invited bids for construction of diversion work, spillway, undersluice, desilting tank and storage reservoir for Tidong-I Hydro Electric Project (100 MW) in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. Another major tender in the same sector was floated by Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA). It invited independent power producers (IPPs) to set up small hydro power projects on BOO/BOOT basis in Yamunanagar, Haryana.

 

Maharashtra topped the state-wise list with 509 project tenders worth Rs.4,205 crore. Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh followed the list with 334 tenders worth Rs.6,183 crore, 310 tenders worth Rs.5,953 crore and 299 tenders worth Rs.4,306 crore respectively. In Maharashtra, majority of tenders were floated in the Roadways and Irrigation sectors. In all, 197 tenders worth Rs.2,221 crore were floated in Roadways and 97 tenders worth Rs.970 crore were floated in Irrigation sector.

 

Private Sector

 

Bulk of 44 tenders floated by private companies in May 2008, were in the Power, Aluminium and Hotel sectors.

 

Some of the major private tenders were:

 

 
  • Sophia Power Company, an Indiabulls Group Company, invited global bids for the execution of Phase-I of 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) Amravati thermal power project on EPC basis, at Nandgaonpet in Maharashtra.
  • Torrent Power Grid, a joint venture formed by Power Grid Corporation and Torrent Power, invited bids for transmission line tower packages A1 & A2 associated with the 1,147.5 MW Sugen CCPP Transmission System of Torrent Group.
  • Fantasy Hotels India invited bids for construction of five-star hotel-cum-mall at Zirakpur, Mohali in Punjab.

 

Expressions of Interest (EoIs)

 

In May 2008, 49 expression of interests (EoIs) relating to Power, Roadways, Hospitals and Aluminium sectors were announced. Some of the major EoIs floated in the month were by:

 

 
  • Haldia Development Authority, for development of IT Park/IT SEZ on 25 acres at Haldia in West Bengal.
  • Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission, for the transmission infrastructure development project in Maharashtra.
  • South Western Railway, for the construction of new railway station building at Hubli in Karnataka.

 

Empanelment of Consultants / Contractors

 

During May 2008, around 17 notices were published inviting applications for the empanelment of consultants and contractors. Some of the major notices were:

 

 
  • Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, invited bids for the empanelment of developers/contractors, to undertake construction of tenements for rehabilitation of people affected by public purpose projects, on municipal properties, in Mumbai.
  • Cement Corporation of India, invited bids for engagement of consultant for environmental clearance for Bokajan plant expansion (1200 tpd), Dillai Parbat Mines expansion (2500 million tonne) and new Silchar grinding unit (50 tpd), in Assam.
  • Dehra Dun Nagar Nigam, invited bids for empanelment of architects/architectural firms/engineering firms for providing complete design and architectural consultancy, to handle different types of urban infrastructure and building projects in Dehra Dun.
