During October 2007, a total of 2,422 project-related tenders were floated, with an aggregate value of work being Rs.13,232 crore. Among the total number of tenders floated, 1,794 were by state government agencies, 594 by Central government agencies and the balance 34 belonged to the private sector.

The most valuable tender amongst those floated in October, was by Naya Raipur Development Authority, which invited bids for consultancy services for comprehensive planning at Central Business District (CBD) and Office Complexes located at Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
In terms of number of tenders floated within the major sectors, Roadways topped with 868 project-related tenders with an aggregate value of work being Rs.4,026 crore. Other community services, Irrigation and Railways followed the list with 358 (Rs.749 crore), 279 (Rs.1,064 crore) and 248 (Rs.903 crore) project-related tenders, respectively. The Airways Infrastructure sector saw 25 project tenders being floated, of which, two floated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) were of high value. AAI invited global pre-qualifications for the construction of an integrated passenger terminal building at NSCBI Airport in Kolkata, at an estimated cost of Rs.1,220 crore. AAI also invited global pre-qualifications to develop the Kamraj Domestic Terminal Phase-II, expand the existing Anna International Terminal and give a new face-lift to the existing terminals at Chennai Airport; all at an estimated cost of Rs.1,240 crore.

Tamil Nadu topped the list amongst states in terms of tender activities. In October 2007, 306 project tenders worth Rs.1,875 crore were announced in the state. West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh followed the list with 60 tenders (Rs.1,272 crore), 159 tenders (Rs.1,270 crore) and 313 tenders (Rs.1,172 crore), respectively.
Increased tendering activities during October, helped Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) to figure amongst the top 10 states. In all, 35 tenders worth Rs.877 crore were floated in J&K, amongst which a tender by National Highways Authority of India was the most notable. NHAI invited global bids for four-laning and strengthening of the existing two-lane carriageway from KM 220.70 to KM 286.00 of NH-1Ain two packages, at an estimated cost Rs.703 crore.

The private sector saw 34 tenders during October, with a majority of them in the Power, Iron & Steel, Aluminum and Oil & Gas sectors.

Jhabua Power Ltd. invited bids from EPC contractors to set up 2x300 MW coal based power project at Bamnia in Madhya Pradesh.

Sesa Goa Ltd. invited EoIs to enhance its pig iron capacity from the current 290,000 tpa to 1 mln tpa, and its coke plant capacity from 280,000 tpa to 750,000 tpa of metallurgical coke, in Goa

Utkal Power Ltd. (a SPV promoted by Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd.) invited global bids from the EPC bidders for supply and installation of the main plant package at its 2x60 MW thermal power project, at Choudwar in Orissa.

Expressions of Interest (EoIs)
In October 2007, 68 EoIs were invited, with a majority of them in the Hospitals, Power, Textiles and Community Services sectors.

Nagpur Improvement Trust invited global EoIs to modernise and upgrade the Indira Gandhi Govt. Medical College & Hospital Institutional Complex, and to construct on BOT basis, a mall and commercial & residential complex to be located in front of Ajni Railway Station in Nagpur.

National Textile Corporation (NTC) invited EoIs from consultants/architects to set up the India International Trade Tower (IITT) at India United Mill No 6, Dadar in Mumbai. The IITT shall consist of a five-star hotel, multi-cuisine restaurants, convention & recreation centre and a commercial complex. NTC has plans to construct the tallest tower in Mumbai over 11.96 acres of land, which will include a world-class textile mega mart hub for Indian textiles and gems & jewellery export-worthy items that would boost exports, amongst other things.

NATRIP Implementation Society (NATIS) invited global EoIs to construct automotive test tracks and associated works at various NATRIP Centres including high-speed test track at NATRAX, Pithampur in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh under the National Automotive Testing and R & D Infrastructure Project.

In October 2007, around 12 notices were published inviting applications for empanelment of consultants/contractors.

Life Insurance Corporation of India invited EoIs for the empanelment of real estate consultants to redevelop the JBNT Property at Borivali, Mumbai.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike invited applications for the empanelment of consultants/firms to prepare feasibility reports, master plan and detailed project reports etc., for various infrastructure projects in Bangalore.
