During August 2007, a total of 2,866 project-related tenders were floated, with an aggregate value of work being worth Rs.14,515 crore. Compared with July 2007 statistics, this indicated a rise of 27 per cent in tendering activities.

Of the total tenders floated, 2,222 were by state government agencies, 586 were by central government agencies, and the balance 58 project related tenders were announced by the private sector.
Among the tenders floated, the most notable one was by Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. The corporation invited bids to develop the "Integrated Vizag Knowledge City" for knowledge-based industries and an integrated township, with world class recreational and support services near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed Knowledge City will be a model environment friendly cluster in the outskirts of Visakhapatnam city, spread over 1,750 acres.
Naya Raipur Development Authority invited RFPs for development of a Theme Township with golf course, five-star hotel & convention centre with commercial facilities, and an IT SEZ at Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Both the projects will be developed on public-private partnership (PPP) format on long-term authorization, and lease structure through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

Among the sectors in terms of number of tenders floated, Roadways topped with 1,256 project tenders worth Rs.5,854 crore. Other sectors to witness high tendering activities were Community Services (330 tenders worth Rs.2,055 crore), Railways (264 tenders worth Rs.1,413 crore) and Water Supply (228 tenders worth Rs.1,535 crore).
In the Electricity sector, NTPC, a Government of India Enterprise, floated 37 tenders for its ongoing projects. Of this, the notable one was that of the bids invited for the main plant and civil works package for the upcoming Bongaingaon thermal power project (3x250 MW) at Salakati in Assam with an estimated job work of Rs.227.68 crore.
Tamil Nadu which saw 719 tenders being floated in August 2007, ranked first among the states. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka followed the list with 359 (Rs.1,405 crore), 298 (Rs1,708 crore) and 193 (Rs.2,233 crore) project tenders, respectively.
The Indian private sector, which generally does not rely much on the tendering process for allotment of project works, floated 58 tenders in August 2007. These were by companies in the Power, Sugar and Oil & Gas sectors.
Madhuraj Agrotech Ltd. of the Trident Group invited EoIs for consultancy to set up an integrated sugar complex with initial per day crushing capacity of 5,000 tonne (expandable to 10,000 tccpd), supported by an ethanol unit of 60 klpd and a co-generation plant of 35 MW, at Dhaula in Punjab.
GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Ltd. invited competitive bids for supply of plant package, on turnkey basis, for its proposed 540 MW coal fired thermal power plant. The greenfield project will be located at Goindwal Sahib village in Punjab.
Konaseema Gas Power Ltd. invited ICBs for setting up 820 MW combined cycle power project, on turnkey basis, at Devarapally, Ravulapalem in Andhra Pradesh.
Expression of Interests
In August 2007, 57 Expression of Interests (EoIs) were announced in the Hospitals, Community Services and Railways sectors.

Gujarat Urban Development Company invited EoIs for urban infrastructure services and consultancy services to manage infrastructure design and construction supervision, for ten towns of Gujarat.

Department of Medical Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh invited EoIs for the establishment of a 100-seated medical college through public-private partnership (PPP), in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation invited EoIs from the eligible consultants for feasibility studies, advisory services, selection of BOOT developer, and to act as an independent engineer, for the proposed rail based rapid transit system which would link Vashi, Turbhe and Koperkhairne railway stations in Maharashtra.

In the month of August, around 14 notices were published inviting applications for empanelment of consultants / contracts.

Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) invited EoIs for empanelment of consultants, for formulation of development and implementation strategy for its various projects, and also to help GNIDA in developing internal information systems for effective functioning.

Gujarat Infrastructure Development Authority (GNIDA) invited Statement of Qualifications (SoQs) from interested consultants, for various processes and projects in the Infrastructure sector, to be developed on PPP basis.
