During February 2008, a total of 2,788 project-related tenders were floated, with an estimated cost of Rs.17,438 crore. Of the total number of tenders floated, 2,191 tenders worth Rs.13,907 crore were by state government agencies, 552 tenders worth Rs.3,518 crore were by Central government agencies and the balance 45 tenders were by private companies.
Roadways, Community services and Water supply scheme project related tenders dominated the month. The three sectors together accounted for around 61 per cent of the total project tenders floated in February 2008.

In Rroadways, 1,171 tenders were floated. Most of these were initiated by state governments for upgradation of roads. However, the biggest tender in this sector was floated by the National Highways Authority of India. NHAI invited global bids for the consultancy services to prepare a feasibility report on the six-laning of nine selected project stretches within the total length of 1,233 km of the National Highways.
The porject would be executed as BOT (Toll) project on DBFO Pattern under NHDP-V (Lot-3). Among the states, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh were the most active states and floated over 100 road project tenders in February 2008.
Governement of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, floated large number of tenders for setting up administrative buildings. Further, state owned agencies like Tamil Nadu and Haryana State Police Housing Coporations floated 29 and 14 tenders, respectively, to set up staff quarters.

The Real Estate sector saw 139 tenders worth Rs.4,004 crore. However, bulk of the tenders were floated in Andhra Pradesh by Andhra Pradesh Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Ltd., and by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The former invited 59 project-related tenders for construction of flats/houses in various packages under the Rajiv Swagruha Scheme, and at various locations in Andhra Pradesh, at an aggregate value of work Rs.3,686 crore. Later, it floated 16 tenders worth Rs.140 crore for building houses at Jakkampudi in the Krishna district. City & Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd., Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and Rajasthan Housing Board, were the other agencies which floated sizeable number of tenders in February 2008.
The Airport infrastructure sector saw three high value tenders floated by Airports Authority of India (AAI). AAI floated tenders for the construction of terminal buildings at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore and Biju Patnaik Airport, Bhubaneswar with an aggregate value of work of Rs.352 crore.
Private Sector
In the private sector 45 tenders were floated in February 2008. They were mainly in the Power, Aluminium and Petroleum Oil & Gas sectors.

Ispat Group company, Balasore Alloys Ltd. invited global bids for supply and erection of boiler, turbine, generator and balance of plant package (BTG+BOP) for its 67.5 MW coal-based captive power plant, on EPC basis at Balgopalpur, Balasore in Orissa.

Cairn Energy India Pty Ltd. invited EoIs/RfQs to provide services for drilling, testing and completion of development and exploration wells under Mangala Development Project in Rajasthan.

Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd., a 100 per cent subsidiary of Jindal Photo Ltd., invited global bids for the EPC of balance of plant packages for the 2x600 MW coal based sub-critical thermal power plant near Dereng village in Angul,Orissa.

Tourism & Culture Department, GoAP invited EoIs to implement a tourism project at Sri Ram Sagar Dam, Pochampadu village in Nizamabad, Andhra Pradesh, on PPP basis.

Hyderabad Growth Corridor Ltd., a JV between HUDA & INCAP, invited global EoIs, for the construction, supervision and consultancy services of an eight-lane access controlled expressway from Outer Ring Road to Hyderabad city from KM23.700 to KM61.700 from Patancheru to Shamirpet in Andhra Pradesh.

Empanelment of Consultants / Contractors
During February 2008, around seven notices were published inviting applications for the empanelment of consultants and contractors.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. invited applications for the registration of contractors, for various works in factory area, as well as in township at Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

Steel Authority of India Ltd. invited applications from interested parties to be registered as contractors with Bhilai Steel Plant, in certain categories.
