MoH & FW invited bids for setting up six AIIMS
|
Project Tendering registered an increase of 13 per cent on M-o-M basis in the month of November 2009. As against 2,453 project tenders worth Rs 21,146 crore floated in October 2009, 2,771 project tenders worth Rs 29,609 crore were floated in November 2009. Out of these, 1,817 tenders worth Rs 9,232 crore were by State Government agencies, 886 tenders worth Rs 20,247 crore were by Central Government agencies and balance 68 tenders were by Private Companies. The global RfQs invited by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for the development of an international airport at Kushinagar was the most notable project tender to be floated in November. The state government intends to develop the airport through the PPP route.

Among the different agencies, NHAI was most active and floated around 42 roadways tenders with an aggregate job work of Rs 13,224 crore. Out of the 42 tenders the largest tender was the one floated on 20 Nov 2009, for four-laning of Ghoshpukur-Gossainpur-Falakata-Salsabari section of NH-31, NH-31D and NH-31C on BOT (Annuity) basis under NHDP-II in the state of West Bengal. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 2,263 crore.
Among the other tenders floated by NHAI, 16 tenders were for the appointment of independent engineers for various projects of National Highways planned across the country.

The Roadways sector, another notable project tender was floated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). On 16 Nov 2009, MMRDA invited RfQs for the design and construction of the cable-stayed bridge across Manori Creek on Malad-Marve-Manoritar road in Mumbai.
With the objective of providing tertiary health care and quality medical education to the under served areas of the country, the Government of India has launched the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The Phase-I of PMSSY envisages establishment of six new AIIMS at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand, respectively. To implement this phase, on 2 Nov 2009, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH & FW) invited bids for the setting up of six AIIMS Hospital and College Complexes in two packages each at the above mentioned locations. The total cost of establishing these was estimated to be Rs 1,908 crore.
Another notable tender in the Hospital sector was floated by HLL Lifecare, a Government of India Enterprise. On 21 Nov 2009, HLL Lifecare invited bids for the construction of medical college and hospital at Paripally in Kollam district of Kerala. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 333 crore.
Among the major sectors, Roadways topped the sector-wise list with 864 project tenders worth Rs 19,199 crore. Community Services, Railways and Irrigation followed the list with 354 tenders worth Rs 810 crore, 278 tenders worth Rs 1,196 crore and 273 tenders worth Rs 865 crore, respectively.
The Shipping Infrastructure sector saw 35 project tenders floated during the month of November 2009. The most notable tender was by Mormugao Port Trust. On 9 Nov 2009, the Trust invited global RfQs for the construction and development of an 8 million tpa iron ore handling port terminal, West of Breakwater in Goa under PPP. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 721 crore. Another notable tender in the same sector was by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). On 11 Nov 2009, JNPT invited global RfQs for the development of a standalone container handling facility with a quay length of 330-m towards North at JNPT in Maharashtra.
Among the states, Maharashtra topped the statewise list with 335 project tenders worth Rs 2,909 crore. Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh followed the list with 231 tenders worth Rs 1,714 crore, 230 tenders worth Rs 1,817 crore and 213 tenders worth Rs 456 crore, respectively.
