Project tenders worth Rs 36,850 crore floated in May 2010 |
The surge in project tendering activities seen in April 2010, continued in May 2010 also. In May, 3,383 project tenders worth Rs 36,850 crore were floated. During the month, 176 more project tenders were announced when compared to 3,207 such tenders worth Rs 24,694 crore that were floated in April 2010. Along with increase in number of tenders, aggregate value of work proposed through tendering also increased by 49 per cent as against April 2010 figure. This is mainly because high value project tenders were floated by NHAI. The national highway builder floated project tenders worth Rs 15,614 crore.
The Government of Punjab proposes to set up a global industrial & knowledge city with major emphasis on IT and knowledge industry at Rajpura in Patiala district. The State Government is also keen to establish IT Investment region in the state. In order to take these proposals forward, on 14 May 2010 Punjab Information & Technology Corporation invited global bids for consultancy services to set up a Global Industrial & Knowledge City at Rajpura and IT Investment Region in the state of Punjab.

Another notable tender was floated by Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC). On 17 May 2010, DSIIDC invited RfQs for the development of Gems & Jewellery SEZ (approx. 16.76 ha) and IT/ITeS SEZ (approx. 10.52 ha) at Baprola village on Nangloi- Najafgarh road in Delhi. Roadways topped the sector-wise list with 1,366 project tenders worth Rs 25,271 crore. Railways, Community Services and Irrigation followed the list with 405 tenders worth Rs 2,289 crore, 314 tenders worth Rs 879 crore and 224 tenders worth Rs 1,189 crore, respectively.
In the Roadways sector, NHAI floated 61 tenders worth Rs 15,614 crore during May 2010. Of the 61 tenders, 32 notices were for providing consultancy services for development of national highways across the country. On 1 May 2010, NHAI invited global RfQs for six-laning of Kishangarh-Udaipur- Ahmedabad section of NH-79A, NH-79, NH-76 & NH-8 including new Udaipur bypass on BOT basis under NHDP-V in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The highway is estimated at Rs 5,134 crore.

In the same sector another notable project tender was floated by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRT & H). On 19 May 2010, MoRT & H invited RfQs for the two-laning of Nongstoin- Shillong section of NH-44 in the state of Meghalaya. The cost of project is estimated at Rs 1,219 crore.
The Hydro Power sector saw 24 project tenders being floated during May 2010. The most notable tender in this sector was floated by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation. On 14 May 2010, it invited bids for selection of partner for development of 93 MW New Ganderbal and 240 MW Kirthai-I hydro power projects on Sind and Chenab rivers respectively under PPP. Another notable tender in the same sector was floated by NTPC. On 11 May 2010, NTPC invited bids for environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies for Kolodyno-II hydro electric power project (4x115 MW) in the state of Mizoram.
On 17 May 2010, Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) invited EoIs for implementation of PPP projects under Suvarna Karnataka Development Corridor Programme. KIADB invited offers for development IT SEZs at Dharwad, Kolar and Mysore, aerospace SEZ at Bangalore (Rural), Textile, Food and Pharmaceutical SEZs at Hassan and industrial parks in Bidar and Gulbarga, education/knowledge hub at Bijapur and commercialcum- office complex at Bangalore (Urban).
Among the states, Maharashtra topped the statewise list with 489 tenders worth Rs 1,743 crore. Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh followed the list with 472 tenders worth Rs 3,013 crore, 250 tenders worth Rs 1,796 crore and 242 tenders worth Rs 2,339 crore, respectively.
