During January 2012, a total of 2,809 tenders worth Rs 15,339 crore were floated. Of the total project tenders invited during the month, 2,086 tenders worth Rs 11,245 crore were by state government agencies, 695 tenders worth Rs 4,059 crore by the Union Government agencies and balance 28 tenders were by private companies.

The notable tender during the month was issued by the Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). On 1 January 2012, the Corporation invited bids for consultancy services for preparation of rapid environmental impact assessment, environmental management plan report and preparation of the DPR for 2x800 MW Uppur thermal power project. The project is located in Uppur, Valamavoor and Thiruppalaikudi villages of Thiruvandanai taluk, Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu.
Among the sectors, the Roadways sector continued to be at the top with 1,066 tenders worth Rs 4,592 crore. The most important tender in the sector was issued by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation for development of national highways and MDRs projects on DBFOT basis. The company invited global RFQs for development Rewa- Sidhi road NH-75 E (71.56 km), Seopur-Baroda-Khwajapur MDR (32.29 km) and Jaithari-Rajendragram & Meohari- Manpur MDRs (111.02 km) in Madhya Pradesh. The cost of this project is estimated at Rs 841 crore.

The Shipping Infrastructure sector saw around 16 tenders being floated during the month. The most prominent tender was issued by the Cochin Port Trust. On 25 January 2012, the port authorities invited global RFQs for development of general cargo terminal at the existing Q8- Q9 berths of the port on DBFOT basis for a concession period of 30 years. The cost is estimated at Rs 446 crore. Another notable tender within the same sector was issued by the Chennai Port Trust. On 21 January 2012, the port trust invited RFQs for the development of Ro-Ro-cummultipurpose berth and multilevel car park in Bharathi Dock at Chennai Port on DBFOT basis for a concession period of 30 years.
In the Real Estate sector, around 61 project tenders worth Rs 2,501 crore were floated during the month. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) was the most active during the month in inviting tenders in this sector. The BDA invited nine tenders worth Rs 1,593 crore for construction of affordable housing projects for different categories at various locations in Bangalore.
The Railways sector accounted 197 tenders worth Rs 1,875 crore during the month. The most important was issued by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation for financial feasibility study for development of new suburban rail corridors in Mumbai. Another in the same sector was issued by Rail Vikas Corporation for construction of roadbed, bridges, supply of ballast, installation of track, electrical, outdoor signaling and telecommunication works for doubling of track between Valadi and Manaparai (Package- 1) and between Manaparai and Dindigul (Package-2) in Southern Railway, Tamil Nadu. The aggregate cost of this packages is estimated at Rs 327 crore. Among the states, Madhya Pradesh accounted for a total of 476 tenders worth Rs 2,320 crore followed by Maharashtra (356 tenders worth Rs 1,553 crore), Haryana (236 tenders worth Rs 496 crore) and Andhra Pradesh (175 tenders worth Rs 496 crore).
