To ensure a reliablepower supply. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand has directed state power utilities to prepare for the upcoming demand surge, including the early commissioning of the 960 MW Polavaram Hydel Power Project by June–July 2027.
In a high-level review meeting, CS Vijayanand emphasised the importance of meticulous scheduling, integrating more renewable energy, and ensuring grid stability. The state expects power demand to reach 250–260 million units per day by March, with peak load touching around 14,000 MW. The Polavaram project is progressing rapidly, with six to seven of the planned 12 units expected to be operational by mid-2027, and the full project set to be completed by December 2028. Nearly all major equipment for the project has been mobilized, and construction of the powerhouse and other structures is in full swing.
The Polavaram Hydel Power Station, featuring 12 Kaplan turbine units of 80 MW each, will contribute approx. 23 million units (MU) of power per day. The project is expected to provide significant annual benefits, enhancing the state's renewable energy capacity and improving grid stability.
