The
Maharashtra Government has decided to develop airports in Amravati and
Gadchiroli. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company has been appointed as
the nodal agency for execution of these projects.
The
Amaravati airport will be developed at Bellora which will be spread over 300 ha.
Of the total cost of Rs.289 crore, Rs.64 crore will be provided as a grant by
the state government.
The
airport at Gadchiroli will be developed for deployment of troops for anti-naxal
operations and evacuations of the injured. A helicopter base will also be
developed, which will be operated and managed by Indian Airforce.
