Bhavnagar Energy Company (BECL) plans to invest around Rs 2,500 crore in its
2x250 MW pit-head lignite based thermal power plant at Padva village in
Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.
The project is to be funded through debt and equity. The company has already
invited tenders for commencement of major civil and construction works and work
is likely to begin in the next couple of months. The project is likely to be
completed by 2012.
Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), which has been granted
exclusive rights to mine and market lignite in Gujarat, is likely to provide
lignite for the plant which is to run on circulating fluidised bed technology.
BECL is promoted by Gujarat Power Corporation, Gujarat State Investments,
GMDC, Gujarat Industries Power Company, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals, Gujarat
Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company and Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals.
