The Board of Approval (BoA) for
Special Economic Zones, on 8 August 2006, approved 45 proposals including
- Genpact India's IT SEZ in Bhopal
- 1,000 ha multi-product SEZ at
Jamnagar by Essar Jamnagar
- 1,000 ha multi-product SEZ of APIIC
at Visakhapatnam
- 113.35 ha Orient Craft's textile
SEZ in Gurgaon,
- 346
ha multi-product SEZ at Pondicherry
- 121.4 ha paper mill SEZ at West
Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh
- 101 ha textile SEZ at Pune MIDC
The BoA has also decided to increase
the minimum requirement for processing area for multi-product SEZs from 25 per
cent to 35 per cent. For IT, bio-tech and gems & jewellery SEZs, the
requirement for minimum built-up area has been reduced from one lakh sq.ft to
40,000 sq.metres.
With the current approvals, the total
number of SEZs approved after the passage of the SEZ Act, 2005 stands at 150.
However, the number of notified SEZs is much lower.
