On 02 December, 2025, the Cabinet approved two major drinking water projects for Bareilly and Kanpur under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, totalling Rs 582.74 crore.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna outlined the project details, emphasising the expansion and improvement of drinking water networks in both cities. The Bareilly project, costing Rs 265.95 crore, will benefit about nine lakh people, or 92 percent of the city's population, through a Phase-1 reorganisation project under Bareilly Municipal Corporation. This funding includes contributions from the Central (Rs 85.31 crore) and state government with Rs 145.05 crore and the Municipal Corporation’s contribution of Rs 25.60 crore.
For Kanpur, a Rs 316.79 crore pipeline expansion project will supply clean water to the East and South districts of the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, benefiting 33 wards. The project is supported by the Central and state governments, with local contribution as well. Minister Khanna stated, "This initiative will ensure clean drinking water for these areas, improving the quality of life for thousands."
