Work has begun on construction of commercial intersection ‘The Central Square’ near the Chennai Central Metro station. The project is estimated to cost Rs 400 crore.
It will include parking lot, and 33-storey building. The building that will come up opposite the Chennai Central Metro will be given out on lease for shopping and office space.
L&T Geostructure has bagged the contract from the Chennai Metro to build a section of this project. The company will construct three basements that will serve as a large car parking area as well as the foundation.
The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has conducted bhoomi pooja and preliminary work has commenced.
The parking lot will have a capacity to accommodate around 1,000 cars and benefit passengers traveling to the Chennai Central railway station, the suburban station, MRTS station and the Chennai Central Metro station.
The construction of the parking lot will be completed in two to three years.
The project will connect four stations and also have huge space for bus bays so that passengers can switch from one mode of transport to another, subways and extensive landscaping as well.
After the parking lot, focus will be on obtaining clearances from authorities for construction of the building. Following which, tenders will be floated for the same and work will begin.
