The Chennai Corporation has sanctioned Rs 632.50 crore towards various works
for the year 2010-11.
An amount of Rs 101.87 crore is expected to be used on improvement and
maintenance of interior roads. While Rs 250 crore will be for rainwater
harvesting, Rs 60 crore is to be utilised for constructing new bridges, Rs 30
crore to improve roads on the bus routes, Rs 25 crore to install road lights and
Rs 70 crore for public work buildings.
It has also been proposed to rename all corporation schools as Chennai School
and construct a 200-bed Communicable Diseases Hospital in south Chennai.
