The Coal Ministry has simplified the approval process for coal and lignite exploration in India to enhance business efficiency and promote sustainable resource development.
The updated system eliminates the need for approval from a government panel, introduced in 2022, streamlining exploration programs and geological report assessments. The new process allows accredited prospecting agencies (APAs), certified by QCI-NABET, to handle exploration without further government oversight. This reform is aimed at accelerating the exploration of coal and lignite resources to meet the country’s growing energy needs.
By tapping into private sector capabilities and encouraging technological innovation, the government is reinforcing the role of private agencies in driving more efficient and transparent exploration activities. The move aligns with India’s broader energy preparedness goals and highlights the government's commitment to progressive reforms in the sector.
