The 24X7 water supply project in Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka, is now expected to be fully operational by March 2027, extending the original timeline by 15 months.
While major components such as the new water treatment plant (WTP), raw and clear water trunk mains, and construction of storage tanks are nearing completion, the laying of the clear water distribution network for house connections has faced delays. Of the planned 1,688 km network, only about 55% has been completed, resulting in roughly 30 percent progress in providing the targeted 1.2 lakh household connections. Challenges include Covid-19-related disruptions, delays in land acquisition, road infrastructure changes, and the need to replace 300 km of pipelines.
Electromechanical work is currently underway at the 43 MLD water treatment plant in Amminbhavi. Efforts are also ongoing to acquire the land needed to complete the CWTM works from Amminbhavi to Rayapur. These projects are expected to take a couple of months. In the meantime, all intermittent wards are expected to receive water once every three days by March next year.
Currently, 13 wards receive 24X7 water, 25 wards receive daily water, and 44 wards have intermittent supply ranging from once in three to seven days. The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), overseeing project implementation by L&T, has urged the government to approve the extended deadline to ensure full commissioning.
