EID-Parry (India) is planning to invest Rs 120 crore to double its co-generation capacity and to add sugarcane crushing capacity at the Nellikuppam sugar factory in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
The company intends to increase its co-generation capacity to 46 MW from its existing 23 MW capacity.
Currently, EID-Parry (India) is using bagasse, the fibrous remains from crushed sugarcane, as fuel to produce its existing 23 MW capacity. To add co-generation capacity, the company will use coal as fuel. EID-Parry has begun the preliminary work on the expansion of co-generation and de-bottlenecking of the sugar mill to add sugarcane capacity.
Following de-bottlenecking of the sugar mill, the company will raise the sugarcane crushing capacity to 7,500 tonne per day from the existing 5,000 tonne per day.
The expansion will enable the company to generate and supply power to the grid during the off season. At present, the company has sugarcane crushing capacity of 34,750 tonne per day.
