The foundation stone
was laid for Sri Singaji Thermal Power Project at Mundi in Khandwa district by
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on 26 February 2009. The
project is being implemented by Madhya Pradesh Thermal Power Generating Company.
The proposed project,
estimated to cost Rs.4,053 crore, will have two units of 600 MW each. The
project is expected to be completed by July 2012. Power Finance Corporation (PFC)
will finance around Rs.3,242 crore for the project and the balance amount will
be brought in by the Madhya Pradesh Government. BHEL has already received the
first installment of Rs.163 crore from MPPGCL for carrying out major works of
the project. On commissioning of the project, MPTPGCL's total generation
capacity will rise up to 3,847.5 MW from existing 2647.5 MW.
