The foundation stone for NTPC's Mouda
thermal power project at Mouda near Nagpur in Maharashtra was laid on 22
February 2009 by Union minister of power Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde.
NTPC will be investing Rs.5,459.28
crore on the proposed power project which will have two units of 500 MW each. On
completion, the power project will cater to the needs of western region. NTPC
will get the coal supplies from Mahanadi Coalfields.
Apart from Mauda, NTPC will also take
up the Barh II (2x660 MW), North Karanpura (3x660 MW) and the Nabinagar joint
venture (4x250 MW). NTPC will also execute the renovation and modernisation of
Kawas Gas Power Station (645 MW) in Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs.597.49
crore.
