On 21 February 2006, Minister of
Commerce & Industry, West Bengal, Ms.Nirupam Sen, laid foundation stone for
the SPS Synergy Foundation, promoted by SPS and Synergy Groups, integrated
knowledge and health city at Durgapur in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. The
project coming up in an area of 300 acres of land will entail an investment of
Rs.600 crore.
The proposed project will be
implemented in phases. Phase I entailing an investment of Rs.150 crore comprises
a medical college with 500 bed hospital, a residential school, a nursing
college, sports complex and common amenities like housing complex and outdoor
sports complex. The entire project is scheduled for completion by mid-2008.
The second phase of the project
comprises of a dental college with management and technology colleges and a
super specialty medi-care centre, and the third phase will cover an indoor
sports complex and other township amenities.
In the final phase, an old age home, a
homeopathy and naturopathy centre, pharmacy college, medical hall and a health
hotel will be set up. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 2012.
The promoters will invest around 25
per cent of the total project cost with the balance coming as loans from
financial institutions.
