According to a preliminary study conducted by Projects Today, the month of November 2017 saw announcements of 749 new projects entailing a total investment of Rs 96,613 crore.
Of the total new projects, 472 projects worth Rs 75,232 crore were greenfield projects; 268 were plant modernisation projects; and nine were capacity expansion projects.
When compared to October 2017, a major shift was seen in the share of the private sector. Ownership-wise, the share of investment in the private sector jumped to 65 percent on a month-on-month basis in November 2017 from 25 percent in October 2017. A single integrated steel project worth Rs 55,000 crore by JSW Steel lifted the overall share of the private sector for November 2017.
The manufacturing sector accounted for around 64 percent of the fresh investment announced in November 2017. The services and utilities (infrastructure) sector saw 638 new announcements worth Rs 32,395 crore and accounted for 33.53 percent of the total fresh investment of November 2017.
In November 2017, 11 mega projects, each worth Rs 500 crore or more were announced. Of these, five mega projects were announced in the roadways sector by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
