The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will expand sewage treatment plants (STPs) at Behrampur and Dhanwapur by 100 million litres per day (MLD) each, with an investment of Rs 366 crore to curb untreated sewage flow into the Yamuna.
A new 100 MLD plant at Behrampur, costing Rs 200 crore, will be built on 12 acres to treat rising sewage from areas like Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension, and Subash Chowk–Huda City Centre. The tender will be floated within a week. Dhanwapur’s expansion, costing Rs 166 crore, has already gone to tender and will be completed within two years.
Currently, Dhanwapur’s 168 MLD plant receives about 250 MLD sewage, affecting treatment quality. Some villages remain unconnected to the main sewage network, sending untreated waste directly into the Badshahpur drain, which reaches the Yamuna. GMDA is also setting up smaller local STPs. Separately, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will direct sewage from Manesar and Naharpur Kasan villages to GMDA’s 25 MLD STP in Sector-6, with treated water planned for green belts, construction, and parks.
