GMR Smart Electricity Distribution (GSEDPL) has received a letter of award (LoA) from Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (PUVVNL) to implement a smart metering project in the Purvanchal area of Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi, Azamgarh, Prayagraj and Mirzapur.
GSEDPL, a step-down subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra (GPUIL), will be responsible for supplying, installing, integrating and maintaining 5.017 million smart meters in these areas on design, build, finance, own, operate, transfer (DBFOOT) basis. The contract is to be executed within 27 months from the commencement date, and the operational period will run for 93 months.
The estimated cost to carry out the work in the Prayagraj and Mirzapur Zone is Rs 2,386.72 crore and Varanasi and Azamgarh Zone is expected to cost around Rs 2,736.65 crore.
Moreover, this advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project will be executed under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS). The project seeks to reduce AT&C losses in the designated area and improve the operational and collection efficiency of distribution companies in the state.
