Graphite India is
planning to set up a 100 MW captive power plant at Durgapur in Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
The coal-fired plant will cost around Rs.450 crore.
GIL will initially invest Rs.120 crore on the
plant to produce 30 MW and subsequently the capacity will be hiked to 100 MW.
The company has just recently hiked electrodes making capacity from 14,000 tpa
to 34,000 tpa at the Durgapur facility at a cost of Rs.170 crore.
Graphite India is likely to produce 60,000 tpa of
electrodes at its plants in Nasik, Bangalore and Durgapur and will require 60 MW
of power. The proposed plant will take care of company's total power
requirement. The company also produces 18,000 tpa of electrodes at a facility in
Nuremburg, Germany.
