Grasim Industries is planning to expand the capacity of viscose staple fibre (VSF) unit located at Vilayat, Vagra taluka in Bharuch district of Gujarat.
The brownfield project involves expansion of VSF capacity from 1,27,750 tpa to 2,55,500 tpa, captive power unit capacity from 25 MW to 55 MW and sulphuric acid capacity from 1,02,200 tonne to 1,82,500 tonne.
The expansion received terms of reference (ToR) in 2017 and Grasim signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop the project in the same year. In 2018, the project was granted environment clearance by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). During the same year, the Rs 3,523 crore project achieved financial closure. Following which pre-construction activities were taken up.
As per the latest information available with Projects Today, detailed engineering work on the unit is underway and the work on the project will begin by October 2018. Further, the project in-charge informed that the expanded capacities of the VSF plant would be available for commercial production by the end of 2021.
J M Environet is the environmental impact assessment (EIA) consultant. The project will provide employment opportunities to 1,200 people.
