Gujarat Ambuja Cements has expanded
the envisaged capacity of its upcoming captive power plant in Gujarat, from 60
MW to 90 MW. Confirming the development, a senior official of Gujarat Ambuja
Cements told ProjectsToday that a decision to add one more unit of 30 MW, to the
originally planned two units of 30 MW, has been taken.
Unit 1 of 30 MW is under execution
with completion targeted for December 2006. Unit 2 is likely to be commissioned
by March 2007. Work on Unit 3 will begin in February 2007 with completion
targeted for March 2008. The cost of Unit 3 is an estimated Rs.114 crore, while
the first two units will involve an outlay of Rs.225 crore. Bharat Heavy
Electricals is the EPC contractor for the project.
The 90 MW captive power plant is
taking shape at Ambuja Nagar (Kodinar) in Gujarat's Junagadh district. The plant
will fulfill the increased power requirements arising from capacity expansions
at the Ambuja Nagar cement plan. Gujarat Ambuja is in the midst of a three-year
investment programme costing Rs.2,000 crore envisaging an increase in overall
cement capacity from the current 14 million tpa to 20 million tpa, to be
achieved through both brownfield and greenfield expansions.
