The Gujarat government announced the approval of 927 projects worth Rs 16,316 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme, aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure across the state.
Funding for the projects includes Rs 4,504 crore from the Union government, Rs 5,597 crore from the state, and Rs 6,215 crore from urban local bodies (ULBs). The initiative covers activities such as underground sewer management, rejuvenation of ponds and lakes, development of parks, and other urban necessities. AMRUT was initially launched in June 2015, with AMRUT 2.0 following in October 2021.
Under AMRUT 1.0, 31 cities and select municipalities were covered, while AMRUT 2.0 has extended its reach to all municipalities and municipal corporations in Gujarat. The revised scope includes source augmentation, water treatment plants, transmission lines, storage tanks, and household water connections, along with urban reforms and capacity-building efforts. These projects aim to significantly improve living standards in urban areas.
