The Haryana Government is set to launch the 'Water Secure Haryana' Programme, with an estimated cost of USD 500 million, supported by World Bank.
Slated to begin in 2026, the six-year initiative aims to overhaul Haryana’s irrigation and water management systems using data-driven and performance-based strategies. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi highlighted the program as a transformative step toward making Haryana India's first water-secure state by 2032. Key components include infrastructure modernisation, rejuvenation of 80 water bodies, wastewater reuse for irrigation, micro-irrigation systems, and sustainable agriculture practices.
The initiative will benefit 14 strategic irrigation clusters across 18 districts, impacting a culturable command area (CCA) of 363,546 hectares. Farmer participation will be encouraged through Water User Associations (WUAs).
