Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on 28 September,2025 inaugurated six sewage treatment plants (STPs), including a major facility at Amberpet, under the government’s initiative to achieve 100 percent sewage treatment in Hyderabad.
Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for 39 new STPs with a combined capacity of 972 million litres per day (MLD), to be built in towns and villages within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) region. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) currently manages sewage and water supply across 1,450 sq. km, with a sewerage network of 10,753 km. Of the planned 20 new STPs (1,106 MLD), two were completed in November 2023, and 15 were commissioned after December 2023.
With these additions, the total number of STPs under GHMC will reach 45 by October 2025, with a cumulative capacity of 1,878 MLD. Further, under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, 39 STPs (972 MLD) are planned at a cost of Rs 3,849.10 cr, expected to cater to needs till 2036.
