The new domestic departure terminal 1 D at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI)
Airport in Delhi is to become operational from 19 April 2009.
Built at a cost of Rs 500 crore ($100 million), the terminal is likely to
handle 10 million passengers annually. It will be equipped with 72 check-in
counters and 14 security channels. Jet Airways, Kingfisher, SpiceJet, IndiGo
JetLite and Kingfisher Red are among the scheduled domestic carriers that will
operate from terminal 1D.
The terminal has been built by Delhi International Airport - a JV between
Airports Authority of India and a consortium led by the Bangalore-based
infrastructure major GMR. The terminal 1D was earlier inaugurated on 26 February
2009.
