The Indore Metro project will undergo a significant revision, with a 3.3-km core stretch between Khajrana Square and the railway station now being built underground instead of as an elevated corridor.
This change, intended to reduce disruption in densely populated residential and commercial areas, will add an estimated Rs 900 crore to the project’s cost, which the state government will bear. Originally, the Indore Metro was planned as a 31.32-km route with a proposed cost of Rs 7,500.8 crore. The decision to go underground follows opposition from local residents who were concerned about the disruption to daily life and businesses due to the elevated corridor.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasised that the underground alignment will help minimise these issues, stating "This move reflects our commitment to balancing urban development with minimal disruption to residents."
