The Japan Government on 29 March 2010 agreed to extend concessional loan of
more than Rs 10,500 crore to India as official development loan assistance (ODA).
The loan package is likely to fund six projects including the
Delhi Mass Rapid Transport System Project (Phase II),
Kolkata East West Metro Project (II),
Chennai Metro Project (II),
Dedicated Freight Corridor Project (I) (II) and the Sikkim Biodiversity
Conservation Project.
The loan amount committed for the DMRTS (Phase II) stood at Rs 1,648.36
crore. The Kolkata East-West Metro Project (II) has been committed a loan of Rs
1,146.747 crore.
The Japan Government has committed a loan worth Rs 2, 932.70 crore for the
Chennai Metro Project (II) while for the Dedicated Freight Corridor Project
(Phase I&II), the ODA committed is Rs 4,422.838 crore.
A loan amount of Rs 150.528 crore has been committed for
Rengali Irrigation Project (Orissa). For the Sikkim Biodiversity
Conservation and Forest Management Project, the ODA assistance will be to the
tune of Rs 263.816 crore.
