The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is mulling over setting up of a
1,300 MW thermal power project at Cheemeni in Kasaragod district.
Land is already available for the project at Cheemeni.
The coal for this project is likely to come from the coalfield in Talcher,
Orissa, which the Union Government has allotted for Kerala. (A company for
undertaking the mining operations has already been set up there by the KSEB in
association with outside public sector power utilities).
The Union Government is likely to provide all assistance for the project.
