The Kannur District Panchayat presented its budget for FY21 with focus on the agriculture sector.
The budget was presented with an estimated income of Rs 144.39 crore, an expenditure of Rs 136.21 crore and a surplus of Rs 8.18 crore.
The budget includes comprehensive plans to modernise agriculture and increase productivity and quality.
In a move to directly sell agriculture produce without any interference by middlemen, the budget allocated an amount of Rs 25 lakh for setting up a vegetable mall. The budget also envisages setting up weekly markets at district and taluk centres.
An amount of Rs 10 lakh has been allocated for distribution and protection of fruit tree seedlings and Rs 15 lakh for setting up a calf park for providing cows, poultry birds and calves to farmers.
An allocation of Rs 30 lakh has been allocated to set up live fish markets and 10 lakh has been allocated for setting up a duckling nursery in Peringome and Vayakara grama panchayats.
An allocation of Rs 10 lakh has been made for implementation of the Little Lamp Programme for farmers.
