Following the Supreme Court's decision to reject Tamil Nadu’s objection against Karnataka's proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir, the Karnataka government has decided to submit a fresh detailed project report (DPR) to the Centre.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasised that the previous DPR was rejected due to certain lacunae and required rectification. The new DPR will include comprehensive project details, including the extent of forest land to be submerged. Additionally, a new office housing senior officials will be set up in Ramanagara, strategically located near the project site and Mandya district.
On November 13, the Supreme Court ruled that Karnataka’s project could proceed, noting that Karnataka would still be obligated to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, ensuring compliance with existing agreements.
