The Kerala government has approved major logistics infrastructure projects near the Vizhinjam port to boost the port-led industrial and logistics ecosystem.
In-principle approval has been granted for setting up multimodal logistics parks (MMLPs) by central public sector undertakings—Container Corporation of India (Concor), Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), and the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC). The official orders for Concor and CWC were issued last week, while the order for IOCL was issued in January. MoUs with these PSUs are expected to be signed later this month, in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Vizhinjam International Seaport (VISL), which is managing the transshipment port project, has identified land parcels for these projects. Concor will establish a 25-acre logistics park at Kottukal, near the port. CWC will set up a large warehouse and logistics complex on 50 acres at Amaravila, located along the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil railway line. IOCL is proposed to receive about 20 acres near the port for its facility.
