Three major power projects are likely to be set up in Kerala to boost the gas-based power production of the state.
Under the plan, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), will set up a 400 MW LNG-based power plant at Brahmapuram near Kochi with a total investment of Rs 3,200 crore. The board will fund the project on its own. KSEB is likely to refloat bids for selecting a consultant to perform environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project.
Besides, the state government is planning to set up a gas-based power project at Cheemeni in the northern Kasargod district with private participation to generate 1,100-1,200 MW of electricity. The state has identified 200 acre in Cheemeni village for the project.
Meanwhile, Petronet LNG is planning to set up a gas-based power project at Puthuvype near Kochi LNG terminal. The company will set up a 1,200 MW combined cycle gas turbine project with an investment of Rs 2,250 crore. The project comprises three units of 400 MW each.
