The Central Railway will be sending a revised land acquisition proposal to the Maharashtra government to speed up the third line project between Kalyan and Kasara. Around 50 percent of the land for the project has already been acquired.
Central Railway has already given out work orders of around Rs140 crore for the construction of major bridges as well as earthwork for the project. The total cost of the project is around Rs 600 crore.
Once complete, the 67 km line will be the longest bi-directional rail line in the Mumbai division and will allow long-distance and goods trains to run in both directions. The third line will allow railway to run more suburban trains.
