The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has allocated over Rs 500 crore toward urban infrastructure upgrades, smart city enhancements, and environmental sustainability initiatives.

The funds, sourced from the 15th Finance Commission, the Smart City Mission, infrastructure funds, and the Chief Minister's urban renewal schemes, will finance multiple projects aimed at improving the city’s liveability, with a sharp focus on air quality, waste management, and monsoon preparedness. This significant decision was taken during a standing committee meeting held at the Smart City office, chaired by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal.

In a bid to tackle rising pollution levels, around Rs 64.50 crore has been set aside for air quality improvement - Rs 35.45 crore of which will be used for repairing damaged roads and laying interlocking tiles. Another Rs seven crore has been allotted for deploying anti-smog guns and establishing construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection centres. Additionally, Rs one crore will fund the installation of decorative fountains at major intersections, and Rs 11.05 crore will go toward beautifying parks and developing an urban forest. To support effective land monitoring, Rs nine crore has been earmarked for geofencing encroachment-free land.

A major portion, Rs 173 crore has been allocated for solid waste management. This includes fresh waste disposal at the Shivri waste plant, construction of transfer stations, improvement of drinking water systems, and procurement of advanced waste-handling machinery. A total of 25 projects have been approved in this category, with a strict directive for timely execution and quality assurance.

From the infrastructure fund, over Rs 160 crore will support 17 key projects, including the cleaning of Kathauta and Bharwara lakes, repair and construction of roads and drains, installation of new drainage systems, traffic intersection beautification, Kalyan Mandap development, and electrification. Other initiatives include flood pumping stations, vending zones, and sports facilities beneath flyovers.
