The Ludhiana Surface Water Supply Scheme (LSWSS), a canal-based water project, has achieved 14.8 percent physical progress within six months of its launch in February, 2025.
Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal confirmed steady advancement and directed timely completion. Implemented by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation with Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company’s support, the project is co-financed by the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Phase-I carries a budget of Rs 1,305 crore, with Rs 154 crore for ten years’ operations and Rs 84 crore for quality assurance. The deadline is in February, 2028.
Work on a modern water treatment plant at Bilga village is progressing swiftly, while tenders for raw water drawl from the Sidhwan Canal are being readied. So far, 20 km of a 165 km pipeline has been laid, materials for another 25 km procured, and construction begun on 28 of 70 planned OHSRs. Additionally, 30 of 50 old OHSRs have undergone testing. Community engagement, awareness campaigns, grievance redressal, and safety protocols are also in focus.
