The Ludhiana Surface Water Supply Scheme (LSWSS), a Rs 1,305-crore flagship project to provide clean drinking water to every household, has achieved 20 percent physical progress within eight months of its launch in February 2025.
Funded jointly by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the project is being executed by the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana with support from the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC). Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal reported that around 25 km of water pipelines have been installed, with material prepared for another 48 km. Construction of a water treatment plant (WTP) at Bilga village near Sahnewal is advancing swiftly.
Of the 70 planned overhead service reservoirs (OHSRs), work has begun at 31 sites, and testing has been completed at 47 existing ones. The project, which also includes Rs 154 crore for maintenance and Rs 84 crore for quality assurance, is being closely monitored for safety, community engagement, and timely completion.
