Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to extend the metro line between Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) up to Bandra along the Western Express Highway.
However, the biggest hurdle to this plan is the approval required from the Union ministry of civil aviation as an elevated line is to be built at Vile Parle-Santa Cruz section which will pose some problem to the existing runway.
Though an underground route will solve this technical problem, economically, the plan is not a viable one.
MMRDA is awaiting for the detailed DPR before taking any concrete decision on this expansion plan.
